On August 12, 2001, CHP Officer Stephen Linen (ID #13812) was involved in a fatal collision near Oceanside, California. The circunstances were very similar to Sean Nava's below. He was hit by a drunk driver who drifted onto the shoulder around 6am.

On October 28, 2000, at approximately 6:21am, CHP Officer Sean Nava (ID #12890) was struck and killed by a drunk driver. The driver, who fled the scene, was later apprehended a short distance from the scene. Officer Nava is survived by his wife, and two young children.

Funeral services were held on November 2, 2000 at 10am.

Handheld cellphone are NOT being outlawed, according to CHP personnel at our headquarters.

There are no new laws regarding the use of bungee cords and pickup trucks.

Uniform Change!

You heard it here first! Effective 2/23/99, Officers will be able to wear whichever tan uniform they want to wear, regardless of the season. I.E., you can wear a short sleeve shirt whenever you want. And, "neckwear" will only be required when the blue jacket is worn. This is now official.

I have been a CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL Officer since 1985.




To the right is the logo of the California Association of Highway Patrolmen (CAHP). Yes, we do have women in the CHP, but the association is not politically correct enough to change the name.

On June 16th, 1998, I started doing traffic reports in the mornings for the CHP on KGTV - Ch.10 in San Diego. You can usually see me Monday-Friday between 11:00am and Noon, and 5:00pm and 6:00pm.
